To kick off my continuing education initiative, I read the introductory chapters of each textbook. This was usually Chapter 1 (with an Introduction if applicable), but in a few cases it was an introduction only or something other than the first chapter. My purpose was to achieve an introductory opening survey for all subjects, gain an initial impression of each textbook, and establish a basis for an approach to taking notes.
